Abstract: The paper suggests a formal approach to the evaluation of the quality of works on etymology, based on an algorithm of consistent and thorough analysis of all the levels of comparison. As an illustration of the opposite approach, the authors analyze a recent review of the monograph [Normanskaya, Dybo 2010], which, as they conclude, pays too much attention to criticizing the particulars without taking the whole into account. |
